Train Services in Kenya

The train service in Kenya was since independence under the operation of the Kenya Railways Corporation. The tracks used are mostly the same build during the pre-colonial era.

A poor safety record, management problems, delays and service interruptions resulted in a cancellation of passenger services. Currently only the Nairobi – Mombasa service is in operation. Only cargo trains operate other routes.

The Nairobi – Mombasa service leaves either City at 7am four days a week, you can check and confirm schedules while in town.
This train ride passes through amazing scenery and you may be able to catch a glimpse of a variety of wildlife while passing through the Athi plains, in the Tsavo.

Corporation is currently undergoing privatization in an attempt to improve its services. South African consortium recently won a bid to operate the Kenyan rail service for the next 25 years with promises of revamping rail services in the country.
