The Kenyan restaurant scene is a mixture of local and international cultural influences. In most towns today you will find a fast food joint selling chips, sausages and samosas. In the major towns you can order for a pizza or dig-in to a burger.
There are also a fair number of respectable Indian restaurants in the Nairobi and Mombasa serving authentic cuisine.
While in Nairobi you can find almost any cuisine you want including; Thai, Japanese, Korean, Mexican, American, Spanish, Chinese and Italian. Some of the best restaurants are Hotel based.
Kenya has an abundance of fresh seafood from Lake Victoria and the coast. There are a number of seafood restaurants here. The Tamarind in Nairobi and Mombasa is a popular one.
You cannot experience the real Kenya unless you indulge in a feast of “nyama choma” roast meat with your favorite alcoholic beverage. There are a number of nyama choma dens to pick from. Meats normally served include; beef, mutton, goat and chicken.
The Carnivore is an acclaimed restaurant situated in the Langata area which serves a wide range of game and domestic meats including; zebra, gazelle, crocodile, giraffe, ostrich and buffalo.
