Operated by the Kenya Posta Corporation, there are post offices in most towns and some small shopping centers around the country.
Envelopes can be bought at kiosks and supermarkets though stamps are only sold at the post offices. The cost of sending a letter overseas is considerably cheap, though the prepaid aerogram normally light blue in color are a convenient alternative.
Post office operating hours vary depending on location. The busier ones tend usually open from 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday and from 9am to 12pm on Saturday.
The local postal service is however discredited mainly due to persistent cases of missing mail and sometimes inconsistency in delivery times.
A good option for sending mail safely within Kenya is by using a number of courier services currently in operation. Many of these services charge about ksh 120.00 to send mail to a number of towns around the country.
Popular courier services are operated by; the Kenya Bus Service, Nation Media and Akamba Bus Service.
You can obtain details for sending parcels overseas from the post office. Other alternatives include; commercial parcel services such as DHL which can be quite costly.
